Saint Joseph/Treatments/Female Diagnostic

Female Diagnostic
Procedures.

Clarity, the first step. A complete picture of fertility, before any decision.

What it is.

Before treatment comes understanding. Our female diagnostic workup is structured to give the clearest possible picture of a woman’s fertility, in a single coordinated set of visits.

Each procedure below builds on the next, and most can be performed within the same cycle.

Female Hormonal Workup.

Blood samples for hormonal workup
A fasting blood sample on day 2 to 5 of the cycle covers the core hormonal markers in one draw.

A simple fasting blood test is performed between the 2nd and 5th day of the menstrual cycle. It includes Serum FSH, LH, Estradiol, Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH), 17-OH Progesterone, TSH, and Prolactin levels.

Other laboratory tests may be added depending on the patient’s history.

3D ultrasound.

A 3D pelvic ultrasound is performed between the 2nd and 5th day of the menstrual cycle to assess the uterus (uterine cavity, endometrial lining) and the ovaries (antral follicle count, presence of cysts).

/ 03

Sonohysterography.

Sonohysterography diagram showing the catheter and ultrasound probe
A thin catheter delivers a sterile saline solution into the uterus while the ultrasound probe captures the cavity in real time.

Consists of a transvaginal ultrasound performed while injecting a sterile saline solution through a catheter inside the uterus, allowing for a complete visualization of the uterine cavity. Air may be injected simultaneously in order to assess the tubal patency.

One Stop Fertiscan.

The One Stop Fertility Scan (Fertiscan) is a combination of the 3D ultrasound and the sonohysterography. It allows for a full assessment of the uterine cavity, the endometrial lining, the ovaries, the antral follicle count, and the tubes, in a single exam.

It is best performed between the 6th and 9th day of the menstrual cycle. A 3D ultrasound is performed before, during, and after the saline infusion, and the results are immediately available.

Hysteroscopy & endometrial biopsy.

Hysteroscope examining the uterine cavity
The hysteroscope, a thin telescope, allows direct visualization of the cervical canal and the uterine cavity.

Hysteroscopy is an important diagnostic and therapeutic tool in the management of infertility. It allows to fully assess the cervical canal and the uterine cavity, to treat intrauterine polyps, myomas, or adhesions, and to obtain an endometrial biopsy when indicated, such as in cases of recurrent implantation failure or recurrent miscarriages.

Hysteroscopy is performed as an outpatient procedure.
