Andrology is the branch of reproductive medicine that focuses on the male reproductive system. At Saint Joseph Fertility Center, andrology is part of every couple’s evaluation, because fertility is never the responsibility of one partner alone.
Male factor accounts for a meaningful share of couple infertility. Our team handles the full evaluation, in close coordination with our biology and laboratory team, and offers the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed at each step.
An andrology evaluation is recommended when a couple has been trying to conceive for 12 months without success (or 6 months if the woman is over 35), or when there is a known concern about the male reproductive system, such as a history of testicular surgery, varicocele, hormonal disorder, or exposure to a toxic treatment.
It is also recommended before considering fertility preservation, such as sperm banking ahead of chemotherapy or other treatments that may impact sperm production.
The male evaluation is structured and non-invasive. It typically includes a clinical examination, a semen analysis, a hormonal workup, and a testicular ultrasound. Additional tests, such as the sperm DNA fragmentation test, may be added depending on the case.

Based on the results of the workup, the team builds a treatment plan with the couple. Depending on the case, this can include lifestyle and medical interventions, IUI, IVF with or without ICSI, or fertility preservation through sperm banking.
